Jackson plans rally with ministers to call for election investigation 11/27/2004 Ohio News Now: "The Rev. Jesse Jackson said he plans a Sunday rally in Columbus with ministers from around Ohio to call for an investigation of election irregularities in the state.
Jackson and his Rainbow/PUSH Coalition civil rights group want to call attention to the fact that votes in Ohio are still undergoing the official count, he said Thursday. Jackson also is questioning whether enough voting machines were provided in inner-city precincts and whether fraud could have occurred in counties that use electronic machines without paper records of ballots."

Media Blackout on Election Fraud by Media News Group 11/26/2004 Denver Voice: "To those of us on the inside of this issue, it seems inconceivable that our local newspapers would offer a front page story on election fraud in Ukraine while ignoring stories of the same right here at home in the United States. Every day, since November 2nd, 2004, stories have emerged detailing such things as malfunctioning voting machines, fraudulent election records in Volusia, Florida, inconsistent numbers of voter registrations vs. vote totals in Ohio, credible university studies showing serious statistical impossibilities in election results, and much more. Yet, these daily revelations have been almost completely ignored by our media. These reports are coming not from persons with tin foil hats as is often claimed, but from PhD level citizens, election officials, and voting rights activists."
US campaign behind the turmoil in Kiev 11/26/2004 Guardian: "But while the gains of the orange-bedecked "chestnut revolution" are Ukraine's, the campaign is an American creation, a sophisticated and brilliantly conceived exercise in western branding and mass marketing that, in four countries in four years, has been used to try to salvage rigged elections and topple unsavoury regimes.
Funded and organised by the US government, deploying US consultancies, pollsters, diplomats, the two big American parties and US non-government organisations, the campaign was first used in Europe in Belgrade in 2000 to beat Slobodan Milosevic at the ballot box… The Democratic party's National Democratic Institute, the Republican party's International Republican Institute, the US state department and USAid are the main agencies involved in these grassroots campaigns as well as the Freedom House NGO and billionaire George Soros's open society institute.
US pollsters and professional consultants are hired to organise focus groups and use psephological data to plot strategy.
The usually fractious oppositions have to be united behind a single candidate if there is to be any chance of unseating the regime. That leader is selected on pragmatic and objective grounds, even if he or she is anti-American."

More voting questions raised 11/25/2004 Columbus Dispatch: "Meanwhile, attorneys for various citizen action groups that plan to contest the results said they are puzzled that vote totals in the presidential race in Warren County far exceed totals in most other statewide and countywide races.
For example, the total of 94,415 votes cast there for President Bush or Sen. John Kerry is 3,000 more than all those cast in the U.S. Senate race and a constitutional amendment about same-sex marriage.
Further, 20,000 to 24,000 fewer votes were cast in three Ohio Supreme Court races and 13,000 to 24,000 fewer were cast in various countywide races.
In Warren County, which reported a 33 percent increase in voter turnout from the 2000 elections, election officials had banned observers at the polls for "homeland security" concerns."

Giving Thanks to Whom? 11/25/2004 Counterpunch: "The Mayflower, renamed the Meijbloom (Dutch for Mayflower), continued to make history. It reached Africa and became one of the first European ships to chain and carry enslaved African men, women and children to the Americas.
Thanksgiving should be a time to commemorate the many contributions of Indigenous Americans and African Americans to this country's development.
We should venerate the people of color who became our first freedom-fighters, and their ability to survive a genocidal onslaught that began 500 years ago."
Military Communiqué From The Mujahideen Brigades In Fallujah 11/25/2004 JUS: "Following is a partial list of the crimes committed by the American crusaders and their collaborators:
• Bombing and shelling Fallujah’s civilian neighborhoods with poison gases, chemical weapons, and anesthetics.
• Bombing and shelling Fallujah’s civilian neighborhoods with napalm, phosphorus and cluster bombs.
• Destroying and robbing Mosques, houses, and shops.
• Killing unarmed women, elderly, and children and finishing off wounded ones, sick ones, and pregnant ones, burying some in mass graves and dumping others in Furat River. The number of unarmed civilians killed is estimated to be 5000.
• Detention of more than 3000 civilians, including women, elderly, and children.
• Savage raping of women and children, then murdering them, and leaving their dead bodies naked on city streets."

US Congress to investigate irregularities in November 2 vote 11/24/2004 AFP: "We are pleased that the GAO has reviewed the concerns expressed in our letters and has found them of sufficient merit to warrant further investigation. On its own authority, the GAO will examine the security and accuracy of voting technologies, distribution and allocation of voting machines, and counting of provisional ballots," five Democratic lawmakers, who requested the inquiry, said in a statement."
Three US soldiers killed in Iraq 11/24/2004 AP: "Witnesses to the Mosul attack said gunmen shot two soldiers driving through the city center, sending their vehicle crashing into a wall. The 101st Airborne Division said the soldiers were driving to another garrison.
About a dozen swarming teenagers dragged the soldiers out of the wreckage and beat them with concrete blocks, the witnesses said. ...The savagery of the attack was unusual for Mosul, once touted as a success story in sharp contrast to the anti-American violence seen in Sunni Muslim areas north and west of Baghdad."
Hypocrisy Sans Irony - Double Standards on Exit Polls 11/24/2004 Counterpunch: "And in the U.S., the Bush administration, citing the exit polls and evidence of fraud that have been raised, has urged government authorities in Kiev "not to certify results until investigations of organized fraud are resolved."
What's this?
Roll back the film a minute.
Isn't the Bush administration facing much the same situation in the U.S., absent the mass street rallies?"
$200,000 Reward for evidence of vote fraud in the presidential election. 11/24/2004 eMediaWire: "Specifically, the reward will be given to the person or persons who provide concrete evidence of hacking, tampering, implanting improper software codes, miscounting votes, or vote rigging in one or more states that would change the result of the election. JTM is seeking evidence from insiders, whistleblowers and others in the know who have information about vote fraud. There have been over 30,000 documented instances of voting irregularities in the election, which include improperly tested voting machines and people having access to the machines in unsecure areas.Specifically, the reward will be given to the person or persons who provide concrete evidence of hacking, tampering, implanting improper software codes, miscounting votes, or vote rigging in one or more states that would change the result of the election. Spain's foreign minister under fire for coup remarks 11/24/2004 IHT: "Foreign Minister Miguel Ángel Moratinos of Spain came under fire from his conservative opponents on Tuesday for suggesting that Spain's previous government supported the coup in 2002 that briefly knocked President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela from power."
Zogby Vs. Mitofsky 11/24/2004 Keith Olbermann: "Mitofsky’s pride in his efforts is understandable. But the so-called ‘early waves’ of exit polling information were disseminated in generalized form to all the networks as darkness fell in the east on November 2nd. They were intended as background, as material that could be used to anticipate patterns and results. Those who characterized them loaded them heavily with caveats and disclaimers, and kept numbers virtually out of their characterizations. But the effect was impossible to misinterpret. Merely in their intended spheres, they helped shape coverage and tone, on-air and off.
And they, along with the voting irregularities so thoroughly chronicled on the net (and still just seeping into the mainstream media), created an atmosphere that Zogby thinks requires broad remedy: “I think it's in the interests of the nation that we study what happened in this election and widen that, let's study what happened with the exit polls, and let's come out with a definitive conclusions by a blue ribbon panel to restore the legitimacy of this election.”
Zogby thinks he knows the steps to take to do that. The first is for those who are raising questions, to keep doing so. “I can reassure them they’re not crazy for asking. It’s not just those who are far out, it is indeed many respectable, responsible people.” The pollster says he’s heard from thousands of them, asking him to get involved in their various causes and investigations, so many he can’t answer them all."
Venezuelan Police Kill Bombing Suspect 11/24/2004 Reuters: "A Venezuelan lawyer suspected in last week's bombing murder of a top state prosecutor was killed in a gunfight with police Tuesday after he tried to ram detectives with his car and opened fire on them, officials said.
The shooting came as authorities met to discuss a package of new anti-terrorism laws following the murder of Danilo Anderson, the prosecutor who was investigating opposition figures accused of backing a brief 2002 coup against President Hugo Chavez.A Venezuelan lawyer suspected in last week's bombing murder of a top state prosecutor was killed in a gunfight with police Tuesday after he tried to ram detectives with his car and opened fire on them, officials said.

Another stolen democracy? 11/24/2004 SF Bay View: by Mumia Abu-Jamal - "Democrats sat back for four years and didn't fight for the voting rights of tens of thousands of voters in Florida, many of them African-American, Haitian, Jewish and non-Cuban Hispanics in 2000. Democratic senators didn't fight back when the Congressional Black Caucus tried to get congressional investigations going into the Florida debacle - and yes, Kerry was among them! They didn't fight in 2000; why should they fight in 2004?
The voters who were disenfranchised in Florida, Ohio and New Mexico are disfavored, and disposable. As long as the corporate gelt comes in, it's cool."

Gaston election inquiry begins 11/23/2004 Charlotte Observer: "Five times Monday the lawyer from the state Board of Elections asked Gaston Elections Director Sandra Page what had gone wrong -- once for each of Gaston County's major election problems.
Five times Page had no answers.
"I thoroughly don't know about that," she said when asked why more than 13,000 votes were omitted from the county's unofficial election results.
"I didn't know that it was my responsibility," she said when asked why not.
And when the lawyer asked who else could possibly have been responsible, Page replied, "I did not know that I was responsible for counting votes.""

Recount efforts in Ohio by Kerry intensify 11/23/2004 North County News: "A top-ranking official with Democratic Senator John Kerry's presidential campaign told North County News last week that although unlikely, there is a recount effort being waged that could unseat Republican President George W. Bush.
"We have 17,000 lawyers working on this, and the grassroots accountability couldn't be any higher -no (irregularity) will go unchecked. Period," Kerry spokesman David Wade said."
'Lowdown tricks' sap poll-watcher's faith in fair U.S. voting 11/23/2004 The Oregonian: "But when Tina returned in 2000 to live in America, she was concerned about allegations of election tampering. A patriotic American, Tina had trouble believing widespread voter fraud could occur in this country. But after acting as a nonpartisan observer Nov. 2 this time around at a precinct in Florida, she says she's lost faith in the system. In nine hours Tina says she saw "lowdown tricks" that have made her feel "disgusted, angry -- and yes, energized." That's why she wants her story told.
Tina, who's 57 , has gone back to school at Portland State University to get a master's degree in adult education.
But she took a week off from classes in early November and flew to Florida to work as a volunteer with the nonpartisan organization Voter Election Protection. Sponsored by a coalition of organizations that includes the League of Women Voters, America's Families United and the American Constitution Society, Voter Election Protection sends volunteers to monitor voting in precincts across the nation."

Are We Winning, Yet? 11/22/2004 Alternet: "Days ago, I was speaking with a security consultant freshly back from a trip to Iraq, and I asked for his prognosis. It's terrible, he said. We're not winning. "What about Fallujah?" I inquired. "Hasn't the city been retaken?" "Forget Falluja," this former military officer said. "All you have to know is the road to BIAP cannot be traveled safely."
BIAP – that's the Baghdad International Airport. And since the invasion this six mile stretch of road has been insecure, a hair-raising and dangerous strip of territory… A ride to the airport these days, he was told, can cost up to $6000. (That's not a typo.)"
Widespread Election Fraud in Cleveland? 11/22/2004 Democrats.com: "Attached is my recently completed precinct by precinct analysis of the 2004 presidential vote in Cleveland. There are wholesale shifts of scores of votes from the Kerry column to other candidates, and astonishingly low turnouts in certain precincts and entire wards. The Ohio recount will prove these numbers to be fraudulent.
I may have identified only the tip of the iceberg. I note that there are 17,741 uncounted ballots in Cuyahoga County. Kerry's margin in Cleveland was reportedly 108,659 votes with a 49.89% turnout. The rest of Cuyahoga County had a 71.95% turnout. Such a turnout in Cleveland would have given Kerry a margin of 156,705 votes, left Bush with a statewide margin of 85,007 votes, and with 248,100 votes still uncounted, nobody would be conceding Ohio."
How the Ohio election was rigged for Bush 11/22/2004 Free Press, Colombus, OH: "Pacifica reporter Evan Davis reported that a county purchasing official who was on the line with Ward Moving and Storage Company, documented only 2,741 voting machines delivered through the November 2 election day. The county’s own documents reveal that they had 2,866 “Machines Available” on Election Day. This would mean that amid the two to seven hour waits in the inner city of Columbus, at least 125 machines remained unused on Election Day. Ward holds the exclusive three-year contract to deliver voting machines in Franklin County.
If the BOE only had 2,741 placed initially, this would explain the long lines in Columbus and voters leaving the polls during the morning voting rush. According to the Franklin County Board of Elections (BOE), in the city of Columbus, where voters waited in the heavily Democratic wards between 2-7 hours to cast the vast majority of their votes for John Kerry, voter turnout was 52.7%. In the affluent white suburbs of Columbus, with far more voting machines available, the turnout figure was 76.15%.
By contrast, 66.31% of registered voters went to the polls in Cincinnati and turnout was 76.82% in the suburbs. In Cincinnati, where more voting machines were available, the difference between the city and suburbs was only 10.5% compared to 23.45% in the Columbus area. Cincinnati and Columbus have similar demographics."

U.S. Threatens Punitive Steps Over Ukraine Election 11/22/2004 Reuters: "The United States on Monday threatened to review its relationship with Ukraine and to take punitive steps if the Ukrainian government fails to investigate allegations of fraud and abuse in its presidential election."
Partial Vote Results Show a Tight Race In Ukraine Runoff 11/22/2004 Washington Post: "The Yanukovych campaign said the exit polls, which were funded by the United States and other Western countries, and the demonstration were a calculated effort to preempt the official result, which they contend will show their candidate has won by as much as 5 percentage points. They noted that a large turnout in eastern Ukraine, a Yanukovych stronghold, could yet upset early predictions of a Yushchenko win.
The official count had Yanukovych with 48 percent of the vote, compared with Yushchenko's 47 percent. But according to a survey by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, Yushchenko had 54 percent of the vote to 43 percent for Yanukovych. A second poll by the Socis agency gave Yushchenko 49.4 percent of the vote to 45.4 percent for Yanukovych, Ukrainian television reported.
"These polls don't work," said Gennady Korzh, a spokesman for Yanukovych. "We will win by between 3 to 5 percent. And remember, if Americans believed exit polls, and not the actual count, John Kerry would be president." "
Militant groups control 60 percent of Fallujah: witnesses 11/22/2004 Xinhua: ""Defenders of the city are controlling 60 percent of the city and they are encircling dozens of US soldiers in Jolan neighborhood," eyewitnesses who managed to sneak out of the city told Xinhua.
Residents of Fallujah said the southern part of Fallujah, whichis still under control of the militant groups, constitutes the larger part of the city, and US troops only control the north andsmall eastern spots in the city.
"Some American troops are based in government buildings and the yare pounded by fighters," they said."
