 Making
Sisters of the Heart

After a month (May 1st to May 31st) in the Convent of the Oblate Sisters
of La Providencia (Baltimore) and since my return to Cuba, I have
continued an intense search for information on the news of the schools of
the Oblate Sisters in Cuba. And this search also allows us to appreciate
the level of racial debate in those early years of The Republic. That way
you can better understand the role played by schools for black girls. A
very beautiful experience was the filming of Sister Josella who was
kind enough to visit me in my little house in the Barrio de Colón. That
morning many children and adults also came to receive the blessing. They
were very spontaneous images, full of respect, admiration, curiosity for
those who had never seen a black nun. I continue with the search of the
voices for this documentary that as I announced among some friends, will
be the last one for the moment.
We appreciate all the collaboration and initiatives that can be generated
for the realization of this documentary.

Hermanas del corazon

Después de un mes (1ro. de Mayo al 31 de Mayo) en el Convento de Las
Hermanas Oblatas de La Providencia (Baltimore) desde mi regreso a Cuba he
continuado con una intensa búsqueda de información sobre las noticias de
las escuelas de Las Hermanas Oblatas en Cuba. Y también esta búsqueda
permite apreciar el nivel del debate racial en esos primeros años de La
República. De esa manera se puede entender mejor el papel que desempeñaron
las escuelas para niñas negras. Una experiencia muy hermosa fue la
filmación de la Hermana Sister Josella que tuvo la amabilidad de visitarme
en mi casita del Barrio de Colón. Esa mañana muchos niños y adultos
también acudieron a recibir la bendición. Fueron imágenes muy espontáneas,
llenas de respeto, admiración, curiosidad para aquellos que nunca habían
visto a una monja negra. Continúo con la búsqueda de las voces para este
documental que como he anunciado entre algunos amigos, será el último por
el momento.
Agradecemos toda la colaboración e iniciativas que se puedan generar para
la realización de este documental.
