ADOS - American Descendants of Slavery
|
The Real Shadow Policy of the Trump Administration Is Racist Extremism 12/18/2019 Truth
Out: "The administration has appointed people associated with far-right,
anti-immigration organizations, like the Federation for American Immigration
Reform (FAIR), to top positions. Until recently, the former executive director
of FAIR, Julie Kirchner, was an immigration services ombudsman in the Department
of Homeland Security." [FAIR is the godfather of ADOS.]
Here are 5 reasons Republicans are terrified that toxic Trump ally Kris Kobach
could lead the party to a historic defeat 7/12/2019 Alternet: "Kobach has
not only been an avid proponent of voter suppression; he has also been deeply
anti-immigrant and worked for the Immigration Reform Law Institute, the legal
division of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) — which the
Southern Poverty Law Center considers a hate group. The Federation, founded by
eugenics proponent John Tanton in 1979, has a long history of calling for a
moratorium on immigration and claiming that Latinos don’t fully assimilate into
U.S. culture."
A Response to Antonio Moore’s Comment About Chattel Slavery in the Caribbean:
More Intellectual Dishonesty 7/9/2019 Medium: "What I find especially
concerning about the ADOS movement is how easily the leaders of the movement are
able to spread false information. What I find even more concerning is that as
the ADOS movement continues to gain support on social media, there seems to be
little attempt to correct some of these factual inaccuracies within the movement
itself. This is also why I have said in the past that ADOS is intellectually
dishonest because many of the movement’s leaders (and supporters like Cornel
West) have resorted to misrepresenting information or blatantly lying about
information to push a certain narrative. The reason why I began writing these
articles to address these many false claims and to help properly educate people
on these issues."
Russia’s Pan-Africanist Black Belt: How New Intelligence Has the #ADOS ‘Bot’
Narrative Malfunctioning 7/5/2019 Paul Sowers: "...the Prigozhin papers in
fact argue that Russia’s best hope for expanding its influence lies in the
promoting and fostering of an explicitly Pan-Africanist mentality among black
Americans."
Supporters defend reparations advocate and Sirius radio host Mark Thompson 4/24/2019 Final
Call: "There’s some nefarious behavior going on, just like we saw in 2016, where
certain trolls—certain interests outside of the Black community, who may even
appear to be Black [online]—like to take an issue, exploit it, and inject it
into the presidential race. That’s one of the things we’re concerned about now;
that there are some people who are pushing the issue and they have an ulterior
motive,” Mr. Thompson explained on the “Morning Joy” show, adding, “Whenever you
see people online refer to reparations and they only hold Democratic candidates
accountable, and then they say if Democratic candidates don’t support
reparations, then Black voters should stay home in 2020, that’s how you know
those people aren’t genuine representatives of the reparations movement."
How Reparations is Being Used to Divide African People Against Each Other 4/13/2019 Medium: "My
question is since when has reparations become such a divisive issue among
African people? For decades the fight for reparations has been connected to the
global Pan-African struggles of African people. Many of the most prominent
exponents of reparations have been Pan-Africanists or people with an
international vision for African liberation. Now it seems like reparations has
become an issue which is dividing African Americans and black immigrants."
ADOS wants reparations—but at what cost? 4/12/2019 Daily Dot: "In recent
months, high-profile celebrities like Kweli and Brown, as well as journalists
Joy Reid and Jemele Hill have been some of ADOS’ most vocal critics. They
haven’t taken issue with a general call for reparations necessarily; they’re
upset over what they say are ADOS founders’ and followers’ anti-immigrant
rhetoric and MAGA undercurrent, as well as the exploitation of the tension and
resentment that has long existed between native-born Black Americans and Black
immigrants and other minorities."
Cornel West and the Intellectual Dishonesty of the ADOS Movement 4/11/2019 Medium: "In
embracing ADOS, West is embracing the opposite of King’s vision. The ADOS
movement has typically been very hostile towards Pan-Africanism. This hostility
comes at a time when Africans around the world are engaging in a struggle for
our collective liberation. Omar al-Bashir is the latest African dictator to be
toppled by a massive uprising in Africa. In the Caribbean we have seen similar
uprisings and protests in recent years. There have been uprisings in Haiti,
massive protests in Barbados, protests in Guyana, and the people of Barbuda have
been fighting for their land rights. We are living in an era where there is a
very active struggle for liberation on the part of African people everywhere.
West, who claims to be part of this radical tradition, has endorsed a movement
which has withdrawn from the international struggle in favor of a narrow tribal
worldview. I use the word tribal because it is the language that Yvette Carnell
has used to describe ADOS."
Why #ADOS Is Trash. Receipts Attached. 4/10/2019 Medium: " Scholars from
Dr. Claud Anderson to Darrick Hamilton have advocated for reparations without
needing align with white supremacists like ADOS founders Yvette Carnell and
Antonio Moore have chosen to do. By making reparations a “hold your own nuts”
divisive issue amongst black voters, ADOS will usher in a GOP victory for Trump
in 2020. And if you think attacking other black people who also deserve
reparations from their respective countries is going to get Donald Trump or any
GOP run government to give you reparations, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell
you. ADOS is a danger to actual black activists who have been active in the
fight for reparations."
An African Liberation Day Invitation for Yvette Carnell and the ADOS Movement 3/30/2019 Medium: "One
of my criticisms of the American Descendants of Slavery (ADOS) movement that
Yvette Carnell and Antonio Moore have founded is that the supporters of the
movement, including Yvette herself, have been very critical of Pan-Africanism,
but have offered little in terms of a practical alternative to the tangible work
that Pan-Africanists have been doing. Last year Yvette proclaimed that
Pan-Africanism is dead, but the reality is that Pan-Africanism is not dead. This
is why Yvette and so many others in the ADOS movement insist on attacking
Pan-Africanism."
Duke University Professor Shares His Guidelines for Slave Reparations 3/25/2019 Duke
University: "Duke University professor of economics William Darity Jr. recently
spoke on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal call-in show about reparations for the
African descendants of slaves and the role the issue plays in the 2020
presidential campaign."
ADOS co-founder Yvette Carnell 3/23/2019 Ms Imani: "ADOS co-founder Yvette
Carnell admits to being a board member of the right wing think tank, PFIR - a
known front group for white nationalist John Tanton's FAIR. This is the source
of the xenophobia, anti African, pro trump rhetoric."
Reflections on the ADOS Movement 3/3/2019 Duke University: by Roderick
Graham, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Old Dominion University.
Real Black Activists Worry Fake Ones Will Drown Them Out On Twitter 2/27/2019 Buzzfeed: "A
group of women who have been working since 2014 to identify Twitter
disinformation campaigns and trolls blackfishing — or fraudulently posing as
black on the platform — say the ADOS hashtag has become a prime target for bad
actors to hijack to spread criticism and disinformation about candidates in the
same way that Russian trolls in 2016 posed as black Americans to exasperate real
concerns about Hillary Clinton’s record and to astroturf existing social
movements like Black Lives Matter."
Why some African Americans are questioning Kamala Harris’s blackness 2/14/2019 WaPo: “We’re
saying there is a difference in the justice demands for people who are
descendants of slaves in this country and those who were enslaved in Jamaica.”
Carnell fleshed out the argument further Wednesday, tweeting: “Kamala Harris
doesn’t have that in her lineage. She’s anchored in two affluent, immigrant
parents. It’s really simple. So since Kamala Harris doesn’t have this experience
in her background, or a track record that expresses this understanding, and she
announced during MLK Week, at Howard University, of course she’s going to get
pressed HARD on the specificity of her #ADOS Agenda.”
Black Critics of Kamala Harris and Cory Booker Push Back Against Claims That
They’re Russian “Bots” 2/13/2019 The Intercept: "The creators of the
hashtag — Antonio Moore, an attorney in California, and Yvette Carnell, a
political commentator — are neither Russian nor bots and are demanding an
apology."
ADOS 2/6/2019 Abagond: "Joy
Reid of MSNBC is also non-ADOS. She would have you believe that the #ADOS
pushback against Kamala Harris on Twitter was largely carried out by Russian
bots."
Rep. Lewis Goes Too Far Calling Trump Win Illegitimate 1/15/2017 Newsmax: by
Antonio Moore, cofounder of the #ADOS American Descendants of Slavery movement,
funded by the alt-right, being published in a major far right publication.
PFIR is not a progressive organization 7/8/2014 Daily Kos: "FAIR
established PFIR. PFIR is one of several astroturf groups created by FAIR to
create the belief there is support for their beliefs from various societal
groups."
African-American Coalition Provides Cover to Nativist Lobby 8/21/2013 SPLC: "It
turns out that BALA is simply the latest front group for the Federation for
American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the flagship of a network of anti-immigrant
organizations formed by the white nationalist John Tanton. When it first emerged
in April, BALA was openly sponsored by another FAIR front called Progressives
for Immigration Reform (PFIR), purportedly an organization concerned about the
environmental impact of immigration. As late as June, the media spokesperson and
phone number listed on BALA’s press releases were associated with PFIR."
The Shady Group Behind the African-American Anti-Immigration Rally 7/12/2013 Daily
Beast: "But questions regarding BALA go beyond the particulars of its current
message. Several of the group’s leaders—Durant, Frank Morris, the Rev. Jesse Lee
Peterson, and T. Willard Fair—have longstanding ties with the Federation for
American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and other controversial groups in the broader
anti-immigration movement. Most of these groups emerged from a network created
beginning in the late 1970s by John Tanton, the father of the modern
anti-immigration movement, whose flirtations with white nationalism and eugenics
(and whose enduring chumminess with devotees of both) have been documented at
length by anti-extremist watchdog groups such as the ADL, the Chicago-based
Center for New Community and others. The Southern Poverty Law Center has gone as
far as to designate FAIR, the Tanton network’s mothership, a “hate group.”"
Duke removes four anti-immigration groups from Fred Stanback Internship Program 4/10/2013 Indy
Week: "Fred Stanback established his internship program at the Duke Nicholas
School of the Environment in 1995. It began with 10 groups and expanded to the
45 that chose to participate this year. Stanback selects all of the
organizations, most of which focus solely on the environment. However, four are
some of the nation's most powerful anti-immigration groups. After INDY Week
alerted Duke to the nature of these organizations, the university discontinued
them from the program."
Report: Front Groups for the Anti-Immigrant Lobby 3/1/2011 America's
Voice: "As part of this effort to rebrand “mass deportation” in more popular
terms, the anti-immigrant lobby has created a series of front groups, including
Progressives for Immigration Reform (PFIR). These groups pretend to speak for
the “silent majority” of workers, African Americans, Vietnamese Americans, or
environmentalists – to name only a few examples – who oppose immigration reform
and support a mass deportation agenda instead. But a closer look how these
groups are organized and funded shows that they are entirely dependent on the
anti-immigrant lobby, and represent nothing but the desire of its leaders and
allies in Congress to make their mass deportation policies seem less extreme
than they really are."
Anti-Immigrant Groups Continue Greenwashing Campaign 10/8/2010 SPLC: "The
small, invitation-only, one-day conference was entitled, “The First National
Conference on Immigration, Conservation, and the Environment.” The conclave is
just another example of PFIR’s cynical greenwashing campaign to recruit
environmentalists to the anti-immigrant cause by blaming them for urban sprawl,
overconsumption and a host of other environmental problems. Many speakers at
PFIR’s event had links to John Tanton, the racist founder of the modern
anti-immigration movement. Representatives from NumbersUSA and the Center for
Immigration Studies—groups founded by Tanton—participated."

ADOS: American Descendants of Slavery on Facebook
Federation for American Immigration Reform on SPLC
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is a group with one
mission: to severely limit immigration into the United States. Although FAIR
maintains a veneer of legitimacy that has allowed its principals to testify in
Congress and lobby the federal government, this veneer hides much ugliness.
