Mass marches and rallies will be held in Washington DC and San Francisco in the U.S., and in many other countries.
As the Bush administration violates international law it has been systematically engaged in a campaign of division and repression in the United States including a wholesale assault on the Bill of Rights, institutionalization of racial profiling, and aggregation of near dictatorial powers to the Executive branch."

Situation Deteriorating Rapidly in Afghanistan 9/6/02 Stratfor: from 8/28 - "Recent reports indicate the Taliban and al Qaeda are regrouping in preparation for a major escalation of fighting in Afghanistan. Moreover, STRATFOR has received intelligence that resistance to U.S. forces in Afghanistan has spread well beyond these groups, threatening a steep increase in fighting over the coming months… Sources in Russian and Indian intelligence separately estimate the U.S. military has suffered between 300 and 400 killed in Afghanistan, with an unknown number wounded. The Pentagon says substantially fewer than 100 have been killed. Although foreign estimates may be inflated, there is no way to independently confirm U.S. claims either."

Cops tried to move them a block out of sight. Protesters refused." And won the right to protest, allegedly part of the Constitution since the Americans went up against the British.
Ore. Protest Surprised White House 8/23/02 AP: "More than 1,000 people turned out to scream anti-Bush slogans, tag buildings with graffiti and challenge police at barricades around the hotel where the president held a fundraiser for Sen. Gordon Smith.
Among other issues, the protesters said they were upset with Bush's plan to relax environmental standards for logging, a possible war with Iraq, the U.S. stand on the Palestinian question and what they called rampant government corruption.
The group blocked buildings, and Republican donors trying to get to the hotel were taunted and jostled. Many had to be escorted in by police, who later used pepper spray and rubber bullets on the crowd. Six people were arrested."

I believe McKinney is the link between Black and White progressives and that lack of Democratic support shows lack of vision and lack of loyalty by the party. Further, the lack of response on the Democratic party is seen as racially biased, and that if they have any hopes for 2004, they must support the Congresswoman now."

The divestment campaign is spearheaded by the UC Berkeley chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). The campaign gained momentum recently because of the Israeli massacres in Jenin and Bethlehem and the group's April 9th National Day of Action and Divestment in which the SJP occupied a UC Berkeley building. During this action 79 activists were arrested including 41students. MIT, Harvard Faculty Petition Universities’ Israel Investments 5/1/02 UC Divest: "Their proposal calls for the removal of financial support for Israel by the universities until Israel “withdraws all forces and vacates all existing settlements in the occupied territories, ends legal torture, and either allows refugees to return to their homeland or compensate them for their losses.”
To date 32 MIT faculty members and about 12 Harvard faculty members have signed the joint petition, which is modeled after a similar petition submitted to the administration of Princeton University on April 18, said Professor of Brain and Cognitive Sciences Nancy Kanwisher ’80. Kanwisher is coordinating the joint effort between the universities."

Anti-war students strategize 11/12/01 Contra Costa Times: "Bracing for the possibility of a protracted war in Afghanistan, students from dozens of colleges along the West Coast met at UC Berkeley over the weekend to plot a long-term anti-war strategy.
In two days of workshops, panel discussions and plenary sessions, some 180 delegates to the West Coast Conference for Campus-based Antiwar Coalitions resolved to try to make their anti-war movement more broadbased by reaching outside the university environment.
They voted to form a committee of representatives from each campus anti-war coalition to coordinate future actions. They also debated whether their movement should target globalization, consumerism, capitalism and racism in its anti-war message or focus on the point of broader consensus: stopping the war.
In all, about 600 students attended the conference, said Snehal Shingavi, a UC Berkeley student who was a master of ceremonies at Sunday's plenary session. More than 60 campuses, including one in Mexico, sent a maximum of five delegates to the conference. Delegates were picked by anti-war activists on their respective campuses."

Police photograph peace vigil crowd

Telegraph, Worcester MA, 10/11 - on orders from the FBI. Worcester Peace Works,
which organized the vigil, responded with some interesting tactics: 1) attempted to
get police ID, 2) publicized the J Edgar like event in the media and 3)
wrote a letter to the police "asking for an apology and demanding that
Worcester Peace Works be supplied with a list of groups that local, state
or federal agencies have photographed or put under surveillance in
Worcester since Sept. 11. It asks to be provided with a list of all agency
personnel who have been provided with Worcester police photos, files and
reports on Worcester Peace Works and for return of all photos, negatives
and files of vigil participants. And it asks for police protocols on an
officer's obligation to identify himself or herself when asked, and for a
copy of the policy on the circumstances under which “groups engaged in
free-speech activities are to be photographed by the Worcester Police
Department." This elicited evasional behavior from said police department
almost worthy of Bin Ladin himself.
