Experience
the vibrant culture of the Republic of Cuba, a country known for its lively
music and energetic culture, firsthand during an Institute-sponsored trip to
the island this summer July 18 - Aug 1st.
Dr. Robert
Stephens, director of the Institute for African American Studies and a
professor of music, and Dr. Rosa Carrasquillo, a research associate with the
Institute, and Professor of Latin American History will lead the tour that
will focus on Cuba’s culture, history and arts. The mid-summer excursion
will include visits to the capital city of Havana, the largest city in the
Caribbean; Santiago de Cuba, the country’s second biggest city that’s
often referred to as the cradle of the revolution because of the role it
played in overthrowing the Batista regime; and Matanzas/Varedero, a region
known for its bridge-filled city, the home of the Rumba, and beautiful
beach, and Trinidad, the crown jewel of Cuba’s colonial cities.
