La Esquina Habanera
This was one of the best clubs in the country for Cuban music live from
Cuba prior to the W years, along with SOB's and
Nell's in NY and a couple of places in Miami. Regrettably, it has
closed its doors.
Every Sunday night they had a rumba led by David Oquendo, who
participated in a historic encounter in July 2001 with the
Efik
from Nigeria, source of the Abakua tradition.
Also playing there was Roman Diaz, another
participant in the Efik encounter.See also nice gallery at Congahead:

Aug 27, '99 | Rumbero night: a number of famous rumberos direct from Cuba will be there, including 4 or 5 of Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, some members of the Conjunto Folklorico, and some from Clave y Guaguanco. |
