Danza Libre

"An exciting young company of professional dancers and musicians from Guantanamo, Cuba, specialising in two kinds of dance: Afro-Cuban and Cuban Contemporary (a unique combination). Their Afro-Cuban work is from the Haitian tradition (Voodoo, Gaga, Tumba Francesa) and from the Yoruba and Carnival traditions."

Directed by Alfredo Velazquez winner of the "Best Director" Award this year for the Guantanamo region of Cuba. 

"With spectacular performances from a wide repertoire Danza Libre are also excellent teachers of Afro-Cuban dance, percussion and song, Cuban Contemporary dance and Cuban Popular dance and percussion (changui, cha-cha-cha, mambo, son, bolero, rumba, conga, pilon, mozambique, salsa and others). They are highly professional and great fun to work with."

The Danza Libre company brings together the very best of Cuban dance:

This combination of contemporary and folkloric dance is unique among dance companies in Cuba and a highly creative mix.

The members of the Company, both musicians and dancers are mostly young and come from Guantanamo Province. All trained professionally at the Cuban National School of Dance. The company tours regularly throughout Cuba taking part in major national and international festivals and competitions there.
