X International Conference African and Afroamerican Culture

Dedicated to Africa and its influence on the region

The encounter intends to gather specialists, studious and interested in the Africanists Afro-Americans topics that seeks to open a reflection space on the most pressing problems in the thematic, from a multidisciplinary optic.

It calls upon investigators of the social sciences, plastic artists, doctors, film directors, musicians, choreographers, dancers, priests and practitioners of the popular religions of African root and interested in general, to establish a debate on the following topics. 

Iº - General Thematic
- Pre-colonial Africa : Social political and economic structures.
- Colonial Africa . Main European establishments. Countries and nationalities Formation in Africa . Wars of Liberation. Relationships of Africa with the world.
- The Atlantic treat. Its treatment in the current historiography. The slave and their manumission forms. Fence and fugitivism. The attitude of the African before the treat..
- The African contribution as component of the national identity of the towns of America and the Caribbean for our historical fellow's recognition.
- Diacrony and synchrony in the linguistic, philosophical, historical and literary studies on Africa , Afro-America and afrocaribbean .
- Gender, race and identity.
- The Africans and the afrodescendents in the New World
- Multiculturalism, transculturation and reafricanization as current tendencies to give treatment to the African component in the New World .
- The political-cultural relationships between Africa and the towns of America and the Caribbean
- The African and Americans contemporary religions.
- Africa in the XXI century. The current cultural problematic of the continent. 

IIº - WORKSHOPS
To -workshop "The color and the Shape" 

Dedicated to all the plastic art manifestations in which the African print is evidenced. There will be able to participate painters, sculptors, ceramists, engravers, photographers, with theoretical works referred to the following topics: 

- The African print in the plastic arts of the New World . Spheres of contacts and influences
- The plastic arts in the African continent.
- the artist's concept in Africa and America 

There will also be able to participate with a sample of their work, not more than three pieces, which will be exposed in a collective room. 

B - Workshop "Images"

Dedicated to the cinema and the video of ethnologic court that picks up the image and treatment given to the African print in the culture of America , and to the own African cinema.
The participants will be able to show films, videos and to expose theoretical works on thematic as: 
- Literature, cinema and video. The African descendant's treatment in the MEDIA.
-The video of ethnologic court . Their contribution to the knowledge of the African reality and its transculturation process in the New World . 

The participants will consign in the limit date of admission of works, the necessary technical means for their samples. The videos and other film material will not exceed the 30 minutes of duration. In the case of producer that may want to present their works, the same ones will be exhibited in the cinemas of the city and debates on the presentations may be carried out.
The regulations of their inscription abide to the general of the event. 

C -Workshop "The ancestral rhythm"

Dedicated to the music and African dances of African origin.
There will be able to participate choreographers, musicians, dancers, musicologists and studious in general who will be able to debate the following topics: 

-The African music: history, evolution and current situation in the continent.
- The African influence in the music and dances of the New World . Analogies, differences, changes and creation process, until the national music's creation.
- The African element as base of assemblies of works would musician-dance. 

There will be able to present performances not exceeding the 10 minutes of duration, with not more than 4 dancers. In the cases of groups that decide to participate entirely, they will be propitiated to act in scenic spaces of the city, being expert that this functions form part of their exhibition in the event and they will not be charged. 

D - Workshop "Mask"

Dedicated to the theater. The African print and the afrodescendents in the scene, for a contemporary vision of the same ones. 

There will be able to participate, actors, theatrical directors, stenographers and studious of the theater in general that will be able to sustain an exchange of experiences starting from the following topics in debate 

- Presence of African elements in the theatrical assemblies
- The afrodescendents in the charts. As subject of the history and as playwrights
-The theater in Africa 

In the cases of groups that decide to participate entirely, they will be propitiated to act in scenic spaces of the city, being expert that this functions form part of their exhibition in the event and they will not be charged. The inscription regulations are the general of the event. 

IIIº - SYMPOSIUM: Medicine and Culture
Space dedicated to the relationships that are settled down between the medical sciences and the disciplines of the social sciences starting from the practices of the Cuban internationalist medicine and of other organisms of health that also settle down for the medical road intercultural contacts. This is dedicated to the doctors so that they can expose their experiences so much in the field of the medicine with works properly of the specialty and the challenges that the experience of the cultural crash provided them.
They will be able to present works on 

- Psychiatry and religion.
- The African traditional medicine. Its evolution and relationship with others in the New World .
- tropical Medicine in Africa and Afro-America.
- The Cuban Medical experience in Africa . Relate between the Medicine and the Culture.
- Doctors Without Boundaries and other similar organizations in their practices of medicine and culture.
- The World Organization of the Health and their list in Africa .
- The AIDS and other epidemic illnesses in Africa
- Illness and ethnicity. in the color population
- Medicine, medical politicians and human relationships
- endemic Illnesses in Africa and in America .
- The epidemics, the virus and the control of propagation of illnesses. 

IVº - Participation General Rules 

A- reception of the Summaries of the reports and communications 

They will offer general information on the main topic that approach the works. They will not exceed of two sheets and they will include: title of the work, names and the author's last names or the authors, scientific grade, educational category, institution and origin country, address, telephone, fax, e-mail. The same ones will be published translated (English, Spanish, French) in the book of Records of the event, for it they should give a very clear idea of the content of the work.
They will be received up to December 30, 2007. 

B - Reports

They will be able to have a maximum extension of 15 sheets, for 15 minutes of exhibition. The same ones will be published in a CD, for which will be given in digital format: double space , letter Arial 10 for the text and Arial 9 for the bibliography and the notes (these last ones will be placed at the end of the document). 

Works will be admitted up to January 30, 2007.
Will be published only those works that complete the previous requirements. 

C - Workshop

The participants in the shops. In the case of the plastic artists will send a brief curriculum no bigger than two pages and pictures of the sample to be presented to be included in the book of Records. Likewise teatristas and dancers will accompanied the synopsis of their works, if they are going to present them of a curriculum no bigger than a page and if it is a group, an information on the same contentiva of their history no bigger than three pages. 

The Organizing Committee is reserved the right of accepting or not the reports. In all the cases, will inform the interested ones on the matter up to February 15 the 2007.

E - Lodging

There will be lodging modules to affordable prices in hotels of the city, which will be able to be requested through the Organizing Committee or the tour operator that works the event.
