Osvaldo Chacón y su Timba
a Cuban Band based in the UK
The group has played at a number of
festivals and is one of the leading and original exponents of Cuban salsa
here in the UK. Osvaldo Chacon has played with many of the leading bands in
Cuba including - El Medico de la Salsa, Paulito FG,and Bamboleo ( CD ‘Te
Gusto o Te Caigo Bien’). Since taking up residency in London he has also
been requested to support bands such as - Adalberto Santiago of( Fania All
Stars), Tito Allen, Azuquita, in Toros y Salsa Festival, France 98.
He has also appeared alongside, Celia Cruz, Oscar de Leon, Ruben Blades, El
Canario (Festival Salsa Latina,16th July 00) He was invited to
sing with Herman Olivera (Eddie Palmieri)in Ronnie Scotts and was the lead
singer invited to sing with Roberto Pla at Ronnie Scotts. He also played
with Roberto Pla at the Scottish Jazz Festival alongside Michel Camilo and
has also appeared with Chick Corea. Last year he was invited to sing
alongside the great salsa percussionist Hiovani Hidalgo at the Queen
Elizabeth Hall. (15th July 00)
"Chacon y su Timba" have been invited to play at - Jazz Cafe,
Barbican Centre, The Millennium Dome, World Beat Festival – Morecambe Bay,
Brighton Arts Festival, Smollenskys on the Strand, Farfield Halls - Croydon,
the Hilton Hotel, the Alternative Arts Latin Festival-Colchester Arts
Centre, among others.
This year Chacon has supported Eddie Palmieri at Queen Elizabeth Hall as the
invited lead vocalist for Tumbaito (25th may)and Osibisa in the World music
festival the (20th oct) in musicport 2001.
The group consists of between 8 - 10 pieces and plays a range of original
salsa/ timba and classic style son. The group has just released their first
CD with Arc Music - USA title – Salsa Afrocubana. Chacon has also released
previous CDs in Cuba with El Medico and Bamboleo.
