Antonio ''Tony'' Calatayud
Miami Mafia - La Mas Fea

Tony is a prominent member of the exilio in Miami and a terrorist with a long record of anti-Cuba activities. A Bay of Pigs veteran and a past secretary general of the Directorio Revolucionario Cubano, a terrorist organization, he has been implicated in plots to kill Fidel Castro in Mexico and other acts. He was a major organizer of the Calle 8 march on 1/8/03 in support of the coup plotters in Venezuela. On 1/24/02 he was arrested for 1st degree felony theft (Medicaid)  in Florida:

"The audit results clearly revealed that Primera Farmacia Latina Inc., through its owner, defrauded the State of Florida's Medicaid program of more than $290,944 between January 23, 1999, and October 20, 2000. In excess of 1,300 claims were linked to fraudulent prescriptions submitted by the pharmacy to substantiate its billings to the Medicaid program. Calatayud is the sole owner of the pharmacy and resides at 14232 S.W. 21 Terrace, Miami. He is charged with one count each of Organized Scheme to Defraud and Grand Theft, both first-degree felonies, each with maximum penalties of 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine and 10 counts of Medicaid Fraud, third-degree felonies which carry maximum penalties of 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine for each count."

Here we track associated stories:

Discount for terrorists - Florida Justice  2/14/03 Granma: "Miami-Dade County Judge José Rodríguez abruptly and suspiciously reduced Calatayud’s bond from the $200,000 originally set at the time of his arrest to $50,000 USD, thanks to the pharmacy owner’s lawyer arguing that his client had insufficient resources… A felony charge of this magnitude is extremely serious and could earn him 30 years in jail plus a $100,000 USD fine. Calatayud is simultaneously accused of defrauding Medicaid, which could cost him various years in prison and a fine of tens of thousands of dollars. The pharmacy owner, not the pharmacist as the Miami press would have it, also owns La Primera Farmacia Latina, on 300 SW 107th Avenue in Miami. He lives in a luxurious residence on 14232 SW 21 Terrace. It doesn’t take much imagination to figure out that he has considerable financial resources and could take on board any important financial need." Details follow on Calatayud's career as terrorist, his associations with Posada Carilles and numerous other terrorists.

MIAMI IN SHOCK - Leader of anti-Chávez march arrested on fraud charges  2/3/03 Granma: nice bio - "El Nuevo Herald failed to mention Calatayud’s previous record in illicitly approving funds. As far back as 1978, in cahoots with Miami terrorists Rafael, Raúl Villaverde Lamadrid, Pedro Lucas Roig and Antonio de la Cova, he was investigated for embezzling Medicaid. As a member of the terrorist organization RECE, founded and funded by the Bacardí Company and the CIA, Calatayud, a veteran of the failed Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961, participated in various terrorist conspiracies alongside then-CIA operative Jorge Mas Canosa. From the outset he actively participated in terrorist activities with characters like Luis Posada Carriles, currently in prison in Panama, and Orlando Bosch, who presently resides in Miami. In 1973, Calatayud organized a plan to sabotage the Cuban Embassy in Paris, France. The plot failed in light of the explosive device killing terrorist Juan Felipe de la Cruz as he was activating it. The Miami swindler also actively participated in a conspiracy to assassinate Cuban President Fidel Castro during a visit to Mexico. He personally hired Mexican resident and "veteran" mercenary Manuel Camargo to check out the airport and other places of interest in the Mexican capital for the express purpose of planning the failed attempt. Calatayud later directed the Cuban Independence Party, a hard-line terrorist group out of South Florida. During the 1990s he was information chief of WQBA La Cubanisima radio station. He ultimately headed "Project Cuba," appointing himself general director of the organization. Various sources confirm that Calatayud ordered and directed the bombing of the Cuban Commercial Office in Montreal, Canada on April 4, 1972, causing the death of a young Cuban diplomat, Sergio Pérez Castillo."

Pharmacist and radio personality accused of Medicaid fraud is released from jail  1/28/03 Miami Herald: La Mas Fea kicks in to save one of their own - "Antonio ''Tony'' Calatayud, a pharmacist, radio personality and prominent Cuban exile arrested last week for Medicaid fraud, was released from jail Tuesday after he posted a $50,000 bond -- one quarter of the original bond amount. Miami-Dade County Judge José Rodriguez lowered the bond from $200,000 based on his ties to the community, said Ed Griffith, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's office. ''He has been here for many years. He has a business. He's not a runner,'' Griffith said. Calatayud, 63 and the owner of Primera Farmacia Latina in Sweetwater, is charged with organized fraud and grand theft. He is accused of filing more than 1,300 false Medicaid claims for prescriptions drugs he never filled and bilking the state out of $290,000."

PHARMACY OWNER ARRESTED FOR STEALING $290,000 IN MEDICAID FUNDS  1/24/03 Attorney General, Florida: "Attorney General Charlie Crist and Miami Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle today announce the arrest of Antonio Calatayud, 63, owner of Primera Farmacia Latina Inc. on felony charges of Medicaid fraud." Calatayud led a demonstration against Chavez in Calle 8.

In this, Cayatalud follows a pattern of exile leaders who skirt or violate the law, mostly with impunity. Already his bail has been reduced from $200,000 to $50,000 by a complicit judge who cannot view him as a threat to public order. Cayatalud follows specifically in the footsteps of Miguel Recarey, a Jeb Bush pal who carried out the largest HMO fraud in the history of the US on the pretext that he was helping ContraCoca terrorists.

FLORIDA JUSTICE
BY JEAN-GUY ALLARD —Special for Granma International—

IF you’re on trial in South Florida then you’re better off being a terrorist. This disquieting assertion has once again proved to be true: very recently an obliging judge (or was he simply corrupt) gave infamous terrorist Antonio "Tony" Calatayud — indicted on massive fraud charges — 75% off the sum set for his bail.

Miami-Dade County Judge José Rodríguez abruptly and suspiciously reduced Calatayud’s bond from the $200,000 originally set at the time of his arrest to $50,000 USD, thanks to the pharmacy owner’s lawyer arguing that his client had insufficient resources.

All Florida knows perfectly well that a dramatic drop in bond money for such a great crime is not common practice and needs a certain amount of confidence with the judiciary in exchange for a judge’s benevolence.

A commentary by Ed Griffith, spokesperson for the Miami-Dade District Attorney’s office, turns out to be even more dubious. Griffith noted that Calatayud has lived in Florida for many years, has a business and is no fugitive, as if his superiors had only suddenly become aware of the fact the businessman accused of fraud is also a well known local mafia leader, radio commentator and, of late an anti-Chávez activist.

However, a few days earlier DA’s Charlie Crist and Catherine Fernandez-Rundle took quite a different tone. In addition to bringing to light Calatayud’s many cowardly acts of fraud, including using some of the most vulnerable citizens’ identities, they firmly stated that arresting the criminal activist was a warning that such practices would not be tolerated in their state.

Calatayud, 63, swindled Medicaid out of $290,944 USD by forging over 1,300 payment applications using the names of underprivileged persons who, of course, never saw the merchandise corresponding to their purchases.

A felony charge of this magnitude is extremely serious and could earn him 30 years in jail plus a $100,000 USD fine.

It doesn’t take much imagination to figure out that he has considerable financial resources and could take on board any important financial need.

Calatayud’s terrorist activities have facilitated his entry and exit from the United States, appearing and disappearing on countless occasions. This does not bode well for guaranteeing a Miami court that he wouldn’t simply vanish before he was due to appear.

A GOODWILL EXPLANATION

The miraculous judicial intervention can be explained by Calatayud’s long record as a member of Florida’s Cuban-American terrorist mafia and his importance as one of its leaders.

In the last edition, Granma International recounted various conspiracies organized by RECE (another Florida-based terror organization) in which he participated, including the April 4, 1972 bombing of the Cuban Trade Mission in Montreal, Canada, where young Cuban diplomat Sergio Pérez Castillo died. He also distinguished himself in 1973 when he planned, organized and financed Joven Cuba (Young Cuba) group’s attack on the Cuban Embassy in Paris carried out on August 3. Terrorist Juan Felipe de la Cruz was killed at the very moment he was activating the bomb.

Moreover, the web site www.antiterroristas.cu cites declassified FBI document no. 105-304390 sent by the Bureau’s office in Miami to its Washington director on August 16, 1978. The report documents terrorist actions by the so-called Coordination of United Revolutionary Organizations (CORU in Spanish), acknowledges Tony Calatayud as a CORU member and notes that he’d fronted a meeting of the group on August 2, 1977. According to the FBI report, the meeting was held to organize actions and collect funds to free Orestes Ruiz Hernández, another terrorist. Hernández had been detained in Mexico for murdering Cuban technician Artagñan Díaz Díaz, on July 23, 1976, after the botched kidnapping of a Cuban consular official in Mérida.

The meeting took place at the offices of yet another terrorist, Pedro Lucas Roig, one of Gaspar Jiménez Escobedo’s right-hand men. At the time, Jiménez was CORU’s second-in-command; he is now detained in a Panamanian prison alongside Luis Posada Carriles, Pedro Remón and Guillermo Sampoll, all friends of swindler Calatayud.

And in case the Florida judiciary has a short memory, in 1978 Calatayud was investigated in Miami for another substantial fraud, that time at the expense of the city’s "Aid to the Elderly" program.

In the same city where Five Cuban patriots fought terrorism and ended up as victims of harassment by the police and a shameless rigged trial, it shouldn’t strike anybody as out of the ordinary that a big-time criminal, terrorist and murderer like Antonio "Tony" Calatayud maintains certain privileges. And the same goes for the hundreds of individuals of the same ilk that belong to South Florida’s Cuban-American terrorist mafia and who benefit from a total impunity to plot their villainy against Cuba.

PHARMACY OWNER ARRESTED FOR STEALING $290,000 IN MEDICAID FUNDS.

MIAMI - Attorney General Charlie Crist and Miami Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle today announce the arrest of Antonio Calatayud, 63, owner of Primera Farmacia Latina Inc. on felony charges of Medicaid fraud.

"The identities of some of our most vulnerable citizens were used for ill-gotten gain and state funds were obtained through fraudulent means," said Crist. "These arrests are a warning that these practices will not be tolerated in our state."

The investigation began when the Agency for Health Care Administration notified the Attorney General's Office that the Miami pharmacy was billing the Medicaid program for pharmaceutical drugs never dispensed to the Medicaid recipient whose account was billed. The pharmacy is located at 300 S.W. 107th Avenue.

An in-depth audit showed that the pharmacy billings to the Medicaid program for drugs allegedly dispensed were much higher than their purchase invoices. The audit results clearly revealed that Primera Farmacia Latina Inc., through its owner, defrauded the State of Florida's Medicaid program of more than $290,944 between January 23, 1999, and October 20, 2000. In excess of 1,300 claims were linked to fraudulent prescriptions submitted by the pharmacy to substantiate its billings to the Medicaid program.

Bush sons' ventures expose him to scrutiny

"Jeb Bush operated Bush Realty Inc., a small real estate agency in Miami. His firm received a $75,000 payment in 1986 from Recarey after Jeb Bush was retained to find a new headquarters for Recarey's International Medical Centers, a health maintenance organization, according to Newsday and other reports.

But published reports said IMC records showed that Recarey apparently had already selected the building, and note that the payment to Jeb Bush came after the then-vice president's son called at least one official at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to assist Recarey in obtaining a waiver from the limit on the number of Medicare patients he could treat."

Why we should dump Jeb

http://www.danconsulting.com/dumpjeb/dirty.cfm

What's your favorite Jeb scam ? Mine is the one where he "wrote a letter" to some "friends" in Washington DC on behalf of Miguel Recarey who at the time was running Miami International Hospital (MIH). Seems Miguel recruited Jeb because his name would help in getting Washington to overlook the medicare restrictions on the number of patients their hospital could take.

By getting this rule broken for Miguel, MIH was able to run thousands of medicare claims more than was legally allowed at the time - this rule was put into effect over concerns of medicare fraud. So then, take a guess what happens next. Yep - Miguel Recarey, Jeb's good friend, is able to bilk medicare for MILLIONS of dollars and then skips town as the feds are closing in.

Miguel is now in Spain, living on YOUR TAX DOLLARS - MILLIONS OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS - and that's thanks to Jeb for writing that letter to have the rule broken for his buddy Miguel, while his Daddy was the President of the the good ole boy USA.

                  (DIRECTORIO REVOLUCIONARIO CUBANO -DRC)

The following is a summary translation by Miami Translator Eleanore M. Schoenberger, of an article which appeared in "Diario de las Americas," Miami, Florida, on 3/10/73, page 1-B:

CUBAN REVOLUTIONARY DIRECTORATE PROCLAIMS
"RECONCILIATION OR WAR"

by EVARISTO R. SAVON

The Cuban Revolutionary Directorate held a press conference last Monday night, at the offices of Brigade 2506, attended by important representatives of various Cuban sectors, to proclaim their motto of "National Reconciliation or Revolutionary War.

The meeting was opened by JUAN FELIPE DE LA CRUZ, who announced that ANTONIO CALATAYUD, Secretary General of the DRC would read an important document to be distributed in Cuba and in exile.

CALATAYUD began his speech with a tribute to Colonel VICENTE MENDEZ, whose widow was present, to student leader PEDRO LUIS BOITEL, and all the other Cuban martyrs.  He said that after two years work, the DRC is presenting its plan to liberate Cuba, before we are betrayed by an agreement for coexistence.

He said that the DRC accepts all groups in exile.
He then read the document, which is summarized as follows:
GED/ems

We want it known that the DRC has no connections, alliances or compromises with any foreign government or agency of a foreign government.  We will not use U.S. territory for carrying out our plans, nor will we involve the U.S. government in the battle of our people for liberation.

Under our motto of "National Reconciliation or Revolutionary War," we will not pause in our battle against the Communist tyranny and the Soviet presence in Cuba.  Our battle will be without quarter, a battle to the death.  The DRC has opened communications with the revolutionaries in Cuba.  We want Cuba to be free, democratic, progressive, just, with opportunities for all, where we can work for the common goal of moral and material development of the nation.

The DRC is interested in understandings with democratic elements within the government and the armed forces of Cuba, on the basis of national reconciliation.  We are willing to negotiate with any members of the armed forces, at the level of Major or Captain, with the exception of FIDEL CASTRO, RAUL CASTRO, OSVALDO DORTICOS, CARLOS RAFAEL RODRIGUEZ, RAMIRO VALDES and the members of G-2, all of whom will be arrested and tried by the proper courts, charged with treason and selling the revolution to the Soviets.

We are planning general political amnesty for all political crimes, past and present.  The only people who will be tried for political or criminal actions are those who, after publication of this offer, commit crimes from the political or military positions they occupy in Cuba.

It is up to our brothers, in Cuba and in exile.  The future of Cuba today is in foreign hands, and these foreigners do not understand the hopes and needs of our people.  Our duty is to face them.  Each day, we will be better organized, seeking more militants and more allies.  We believe in daily work and in the battle which will develop, but we always leave the door open to national reconciliation.  Let us work together to seek a rapid solution to this situation–otherwise, the only solution is revolutionary war.  We would prefer a solution which would not involve a long, cruel, bloody war.

WE WILL NEVER NEGOTIATE THE FREEDOM OF OUR COUNTRY!
NATIONAL RECONCILIATION OR REVOLUTIONARY WAR!

[Extract from report by Jose Gregorio Fernandez Santos, who spent seven years in the counter- revolutionary organization in Miami as a precursor to the counterterrorism agents recently jailed by the US:]

From 1969 to 1976 Fernandez Santos carried out a thorough investigation of activities directed against the Cuban Revolution, right in the bosom of the insidious exile groups located in Miami, many of which had been trained by the CIA and operated with impunity from US territory.  During this period, Fernandez Santos kept close ties with the main counterrevolutionary organizations and became captain in charge of the ALPHA-66 "Navy", until he returned to Cuba.

[Fernandez Santos report]

"It had become known that some counter revolutionaries in Miami, headed by Antonio Calatayud Rivera, had asked Manuel Camargo, a counterrevolutionary and ex-mercenary member of Brigade 2506 who lived in Mexico, to make a thorough study of the airport and other places of interest in Mexico such as Independence Square on the grounds that Commander in Chief Fidel Castro was supposed to visit that country.

"Consequently, weapons were transferred to Mexico City.  Once I was able to determine the real possibilities and objectives of this plan I was told to return to Cuba."
