Mr President,
Our organization, Afro Cuban Forum, is the only one among the Cuban exiles
that focuses directly on race relations both in the US and in Cuba. We are
a group of Cubans who live either in Cuba or abroad, of all races, ages,
sexual inclinations, creeds, political views and philosophical persuasions
in which the ONLY prerequisite is our distinct awareness of the dynamics
and the challenges of a full racial integration.
We support ourselves with the proceeds of our membership and will
negotiate contributions from private donors; we have not applied for any
tax payer's funded grants.
The very fabric of AFC makes it possible for some of us to approach the
change of course in the US - Cuban regime relations from many different
angles; however, the dream of somehow helping the average Cuban is
unanimously shared.
We understand that the sacred duty of a US president is to defend the
vital interests of our great nation and monitoring a "soft landing" in the
neighboring island makes perfect sense from the geopolitical standpoint.
It is, thus precisely in the pursuit of those interests that the racial
issue must be uppermost in dealing with the Cuban government. More than
half of the island's population is of African descent according to our
estimates (the accurate percentage of blacks has always been the object of
utmost secrecy and manipulation) and they have been historically
discriminated against and are now intentionally neglected by the Castros.
They are the overwhelming majority in the penal population and very rarely
enjoy the meager benefits of the wrongly called "private sector".
Black Cubans are conspicuously absent from the board meetings of state
owned corporations (all corporations belong to the state), the hotel front
desks and any of those positions where a dollar or two may be earned.
The aforementioned situation is the perfect formula for a social explosion
once the regime inevitably loosens its grip on power. All sorts of
creatures exit the dustbin once the lid is off, and THAT, merely 90 miles
away, is a distinct threat to our national security.
To be more clear Mr President; the future of the Cuban people must be
discussed, negotiated, or fought out among Cubans; we should not and must
not expect you to bring freedom to our native island; however, it is not
encouraging to realize that despite all the rhetoric of change and a new
course of action the meeting behind closed doors theory persists. Mr Ben
Rhodes came to Miami and met with a handful of Cubans; he was videotaped
in the company of a black Cuban entertainer; which reinforces the
stereotyped narrative of black Cubans being good only to entertain and run
after a ball. Why not an open meeting with all of us? we regret that the
sample was too small to objectively convey our views.
But we have done our part, now you know that continuing to sweep the
racial problem under the rug can lead to disaster in the island and could
even trigger an undesired violent outcome should we keep ignoring it. This
transcends the realm of Cuba's internal affairs and is a ticking time
bomb.
As the powerful tires of Air Force One regally skid on the runway at Jose
Marti International Airport the world will be engaged in celebrating the
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, no
contrast can be starker, no symbol can be more suitable, no challenge can
be more formidable.
We remain hopeful that this missive contributes to establishing a
transparent channel of communication between our government and the
entirety of the Cuban American community; meanwhile allow us to wish you
and your family the best in the remainder of your term as our Commander in
Chief and in your life as a private citizen.

 In a crucial, defining,
historic moment in our lives where the courageous attitude of President
Barack Obama tries to alleviate the suffering of the Cuban people, to
weaken a cruel embargo that has caused hunger, disease, desolation and
death for half a century, it is unjust, immoral and shameful on the part
of those who who never stood beside their brothers and sisters to demand
perfection in this process, while, complicit, they kept silent and
supported criminal actions against Cuba carried out by the likes of
the Diaz-Balarts, Ros Lethinen, Marco Rubio,
Cesar Odio, Perez-Roura, Martin Perez,
Oscar Haza, Luis Posada Carriles,
Los Hermanos al Rescate and a pack of murderers
shielded by the most diverse forms of asymmetric warfare
against the people of Cuba.
Trying to hide behind the
color of their skin, they have invented as many small groups as they could since the
famous meeting in Miami in 1998, where I denounced the formation of this
embryonic nucleus against our people. From these actions emanated the
taking of courses in nonviolent resistance given at the Martin Luther King
Center, at the University of Mississippi and others, all targeted to
dividing the Cuban nation along ethnic lines in a new way to repeat the massacre of the Independent
Party of Color in 1912 and encourage foreign intervention.
Highlighting and emphasizing
some severe injustices as yet unresolved in Cuba, they have tried to turn
these into weapons and strategies of struggle, which has only served to
weaken the struggle of blacks in Cuba who have over more than 20 years
demanded justice, equity, and a recovery of violated rights without
trying to undermine the foundations of the Revolution.
The Caribbean American Children Foundation has
been standing by the people of Cuba with moral support and through sending
material resources for health, education, sports, culture, physical
disabilities etc., primarily for Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Banes, the
Garifunas in Honduras, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Jamaica, without our
ever having been able to count on the moral or material support of any of the
neo-defenders of the rights of blacks in Cuba, Overtown, Parramore or
Baltimore .
In another diversionary blow which
aims to weaken and divide the massive support and just struggle of
thousands of African Americans intellectuals in favor of Cuba and the
cause of the descendants of Africa in Cuba, a poisonous letter entitled "Acting
on our Conscience" also attempted to create factions, weaken the
unity of the oppressed, and challenge proven fighters for Civil Rights in the
United States such as Harry Belafonte, Danny Glover, Randal Robinson and
others. Brothers and sisters, this is the hour of the future and we must
unite to support the marginalized, the segregated and the impoverished in Cuba
without using them for petty causes, dressing them
in white, buying
them gladioli,
and paying them with silver coins stained with the blood of
Aponte, Carlota,
Jesus Menendez, Conrado Benitez and Antonio Maceo. History will be
severe with your behavior that negates the teachings of Mariana Grajales,
Patricio Lumumba and Nelson Mandela.

amenaza para nuestra seguridad nacional.
Para ser más claros Señor Presidente;
el futuro del pueblo cubano debe ser discutido, negociado, o librado entre
los cubanos; no debemos y no deberiamos esperar que usted lleve la
libertad a nuestra isla natal; sin embargo, no es alentador darse cuenta
de que a pesar de toda la retórica del cambio y la nueva línea de acción,
una teoría de la reunión a puertas cerradas persiste. Sr. Ben Rhodes llegó
a Miami y se reunió con un puñado de cubanos; el fue grabado en vídeo en
compañía de un artista cubano negro; lo que refuerza la narrativa
estereotipada de los negros cubanos de ser bueno sólo para entretener y

En
un momento crucial, histórico, definitorio en nuestras vidas, en el cual
la corajuda actitud del Presidente Barack Obama intenta mitigar el
sufrimiento del pueblo Cubano, al debilitar un cruel embargo que ha
causado hambre, enfermedad, desolación y muerte durante medio siglo, es
injusto, inmoral y vergonzoso de parte de quienes jamas estuvieron al lado
de sus hermanos, exigir perfección en este proceso, mientras guardaron
silencio cómplice y apoyaron acciones a criminales en contra de Cuba como
son
Diaz-Balart, Ros Lethinen,
Marco Rubio, Cesar Odio, Pérez-Roura, Martín Pérez, Oscar Haza,
Luis Posada Carriles, Los Hermanos al Rescate
y otra jauría de asesinos escudados en las mas diversas formas de lucha
asimétrica en contra del pueblo de Cuba.
Tratando de escudarse en el color de su piel, han inventado cuantos
grupúsculos han podido desde la famosa reunión de
Miami en 1998, en la cual denuncié la formación de este embrión en
contra de nuestro pueblo. De aquellas acciones emanaron los cursos de lucha pacifica impartida en el
Centro Martin Luther King en Atlanta, en la Universidad de Mississippi
y otros, todos destinados a fragmentar la nación cubana, haciendo de la
división énitca una nueva forma de re-editar la massacre de los Independientes de
Color de 1912 y así dar aliento a la idea de una intervención
extranjera.
Resaltando y recalcando en severas injusticias pendientes de resolver en
Cuba, han tratado de convertir estas en armas y estrategias de lucha, lo
cual ha servido solo, para debilitar la lucha de los negros en Cuba que
llevan mas de 20 anos demandando justicia, equidad, derechos conculcados.
sin tratar de socavar las bases de la Revolución.
La Fundación Caribeña Americana de los Niños, ha estado al lado del pueblo
de Cuba mediante el apoyo moral y el envío de recursos materiales para la
salud, educación, deporte, cultura, impedidos físicos etc.,
primordialmente para las regiones de Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Banes,
Garifunas en Honduras, Haití, República Dominicana y Jamaica, sin que
hayamos podido contar con la ayuda moral o material de muchos
neo-defensores de los Derechos de los negros en Cuba, Overtown, Parramore
o Baltimore.
En otro zarpazo diversionista que pretendió debilitar y fraccionar el
masivo apoyo y justa lucha de miles de Afroamericanos intelectuales en
favor de Cuba y de la causa de los descendientes de África en Cuba, una
venenosa carta titulada "Un llamado a
nuestras Conciencias" intento de igual manera, crear bandos, debilitar
la unidad de los oprimidos, emplazando a probados luchadores por los
Derechos Civiles en los Estados Unidos como Harry Belafonte,
Danny Glover, Randal Robinson y otros.
Hermanos y hermanas, es la “hora de los hornos” y debemos unirnos para
apoyar a los marginados, segregados y empobrecidos en Cuba, sin
utilizarlos para causas mezquinas, vistiéndolos de blanco, comprándoles
gladiolos, pagándoles con Monedas de Plata manchadas con la sangre de Aponte, Carlota,
Jesús Menéndez, Conrado Benítez y
Antonio
Maceo.
La historia sera severa con vuestra conducta que niega las enseñanzas de
Mariana Grajales, Patricio Lumumba y Nelson Mandela.
