Lorenzo Dow Turner was a linguist/Africanist who devoted
the major portion of his life to the research and documentation of the
survivals and retentions of West African languages and culture in the
descendants of African ex-slaves of the Western Hemisphere.
After studying Gullah culture, he went to Cuba and
Nigeria around 1951.
